WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--April 15, 2003-- CaminoSoft
Corp. CMSF,
a leading provider of Intelligent
Capacity Management (TM) data storage and
management solutions, announced today that it
has completed development of Managed Server HSM
5.0 for both the Novell NetWare and the Windows
2000 Server platforms. The new features
associated with this release include: a single,
graphical user interface (GUI) point of
administration for both the NetWare and Windows
2000 Server platforms, full support for Novell’s
NetWare 6 Cluster Services with fail-over,
policy-based file deletion, storage pooling with
automatic provisioning, improved administrator
alerts including email delivery, enhanced
scheduling, miscellaneous added and improved
utility functions, and an interface capable of
enabling virtually any third-party application
to pass a list of files to migrate on demand.
CaminoSoft will be demonstrating Managed Server
HSM 5.0 and its other HSM and high availability
products at Novell’s BrainShare 2003 in Salt
Lake City, UT, throughout the week of April 14.
CaminoSoft’s products can be seen in
CaminoSoft’s own booth as well as partner-booths
hosted by Computer Associates, Inc. and The
Messaging Architects.
Neil Murvin, Vice President of
Research and Development for CaminoSoft, stated,
"We were already in a class of our own with HSM
products for both the Novell NetWare and Windows
2000 platforms. We listened to our customers
and added the features they felt would make the
products even better. Administrators can now
control Managed Server HSM from a single
workstation-based graphical user interface
(GUI). The user interface connects to a
platform-specific agent running on each
‘managed’ server allowing the same exact look
and feel whether controlling the application
running on a Novell or Windows server platform –
a feature especially useful in mixed server
environments. Besides migrating files to
additional storage tiers, we now offer the
ability to automatically delete files based on
file age and activity policies. NetWare 6
cluster nodes managing HSM volumes fail over to
other nodes to seamlessly carry on the
management of those volumes in the event of a
server failure. The new scheduling options and
the storage pool provisioning further reduce the
need for administrator intervention. In
addition to workstation broadcasts,
administrators can now be notified via email
(optionally linked to paging devices) of
hardware malfunctions or critical conditions
detected by the application. We’ve improved
StubSave (our stub protection utility) to
optionally execute automatically once it is
detected as ‘safe’ to proceed. We added a
StubCheck utility to verify the integrity of
every migrated file and optionally notify
administrators if a problem is detected while
there’s still time to do something about it.
We’ve improved the granularity of policy
assignment to give the administrator more
control and manageability. Our migration list
interface allows third-party applications like
Storage Resource Management (SRM) systems to
provide lists of files they have determined
should be migrated or deleted based on ad-hoc
policies applied through their systems. Those
files will be migrated or deleted right along
with the ones we’ve identified using our own
policies. We’ve begun discussions with Computer
Associates to implement such an interface with
their SRM product. To simplify the upgrade
process for our existing customers, files
migrated with previous versions of Managed
Server HSM are fully compatible with Managed
Server HSM 5.0."
