WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 17, 2004-- CaminoSoft Corporation (OTC.BB:CMSF
-
News), a leading provider of Information Lifecycle Management
(ILM) solutions for Microsoft Windows 200X and Novell NetWare environments, announced today the availability of new features for its Windows-based ILM suite.
CaminoSoft's Managed Server HSM(TM) software delivers key ILM advantages for organizations by:
-- Managing data storage in an automated, intelligent manner
based on administrator-defined policies, reducing IT
management overhead, manual intervention, and costly mistakes.
-- Optimizing SAN utilization by continually differentiating
active production files from infrequently accessed reference
files and migrating the latter to less-expensive storage, such
as ATA/RAID.
-- Enabling backup solutions to focus on protecting production
files and a significantly smaller amount of reference
information for migrated files, reducing the time required for
backup.
-- Shortening the time required to perform full server (disaster)
recovery by restoring only production files and relevant
reference information for migrated files.
-- Providing end-users with transparent access to all of their
stored files, including original attributes and directory
structures -- without administrator involvement.
According to Neil Murvin, Chief Technology Officer at CaminoSoft, "Managed Server HSM for Windows 2000/2003 version 5.1 improves scalability and adds enterprise-level features to its existing comprehensive set of storage management functions. Most significant of these new features is support for Microsoft Windows Clustering Services. Clustered server nodes that 'manage'
their own volumes can automatically detect when additional 'managed' volumes ( from a failed cluster node) have been mounted. The 'backup' cluster node dynamically imports the policy information for the additional volumes and combines the management of the files from its own volumes together with those of the failed 'primary' node, thereby providing applications and users with continuous access to migrated file content."
Murvin continued, "To provide added scalability, v5.1 is now compatible with Microsoft SQL Server for the storage and management of its policy and history databases. Other notable enhancements include: expansion of wild-card capabilities to allow increased granularity in 'profiling' the types of files to be included or excluded from management; improved filter-driver memory management for better co-existence with other applications; updated Library Edition drivers to support the latest tape drives and libraries; and the addition of server 'aliasing' to allow greater flexibility in connecting to alternate target resources in disaster recovery and other situations."
