EMC Centera Proven status of CaminoSoft Managed Server HSM™ – Centera Proven™
Edition with EMC Centera System Delivers Innovative Data Management and Storage Scalability Solution for Novell NetWare and Microsoft
Windows 2000/2003 Environments
WESTLAKE VILLAGE,
Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)—August 2, 2005--CaminoSoft Corp.
(OTC.BB:CMSF
-
News),
a leading provider of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions for Novell NetWare & GroupWise and
Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 environments, today announced that its Managed Server HSM™ – Centera Proven™ Edition has achieved EMC Centera Proven status. The solution has
passed strict independent testing with EMC® Centera™ content addressed storage (CAS). Together, the Managed Server HSM and EMC Centera offering provide organizations with a storage hierarchy capable of significant expansion– while addressing regulatory requirements for data retention. As a benefit of being EMC Centera Proven, EMC and CaminoSoft will work together to provide technical support for joint customers who have deployed both companies’ products.
The EMC Centera Proven Program, which is administered and managed through VeriTest, a leading independent testing division of Lionbridge (Nasdaq: LIOX), helps customers more efficiently deploy CaminoSoft’s
Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition with EMC’s leading CAS platform. Under this program, VeriTest has certified that Managed
Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition has passed strict integration testing criteria. Such verification minimizes a customer’s
application testing and custom development. CaminoSoft’s EMC Centera Proven status applies to all Centera models and configurations.
Now organizations operating in Novell and Microsoft server environments can more rapidly and cost-effectively deploy a Centera-based
enterprise archiving solution.
CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition enables organizations to better manage the utilization of
storage resources throughout the enterprise. By applying a consistent set of policies, administrators can control the migration,
location, and retention of files throughout their lifecycle across all storage tiers, including high-performance storage area network
(SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) subsystems, general-purpose disk arrays, and Centera archives. Files migrated in such a way
tend to become more “fixed” in nature over time as they move along the storage hierarchy. The Centera system’s combined features of
fixed-content optimization; high availability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness make it very attractive as an archive solution for
controlling the otherwise explosive growth of an organization’s primary storage infrastructure.
Available now, Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition:
• Manages data storage and file migration in an automated manner based on administrator-defined policies—reducing management overhead, manual intervention, and costly mistakes;
• Enables backup solutions to be applied to active, production files—optimizing uptime—while protecting the “pointers” to the files that were migrated to the Centera system;
• Dramatically shortens time required for server recovery—minimizing downtime—by restoring only active, production files in full and the “pointers” to the files that were migrated to the Centera system;
• Provides users with online transparent access to their files, which exhibit original properties and appear in expected volume/directory structures—without administrator intervention; and,
• Minimizes SAN storage growth by continually differentiating seldom-accessed files from active production files and migrating these to storage pool and Centera resources, per policies.
Once relegated to optical disks, tape archives, or file cabinets, fixed content is now being driven to CAS solutions. With CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition achieving
EMC Centera Proven status, organizations running NetWare and Windows 200X servers can implement a structured, online data repository
through which they can manage, access, and protect their fixed-content.
Providing further added-value to the integration activity, EMC and CaminoSoft agree to support joint customers with comprehensive service and support. Each company will remain solely responsible for support of their own installations.
For cooperative solutions such as Centera, the companies will coordinate and communicate a case remedy, as may be required, to their
joint customer to facilitate rapid resolution of an issue. Products currently covered are: CaminoSoft Managed Server HSM suite
(for NetWare, Windows 200X, and Centera Proven Edition) and SnapShotServer for NetWare; and EMC Centera and Legato Networker.
Mike Skelton, CEO and President of CaminoSoft, stated, “We are pleased to be working closely with EMC both as a technology partner for EMC Centera and a cooperative
support provider. Together, our collaborative ILM solutions play a key role in storage management and optimization, system availability
and recovery, and file archiving and compliance. The EMC Centera-based solution provides an effective way to manage fixed-content─which
can account for over 75% of an organization’s data─while properly protecting business-critical reference files and making them readily
accessible.”
Roy Sanford, Vice President of Content Addressed Storage at EMC, said, “The EMC Centera Proven program provides a more detailed technical integration process that helps our customers and our partners by addressing any issues up front, in the lab, rather than at the customer site. With CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition becoming EMC Centera Proven, businesses─ both large and small─can take comfort that they can optimize storage usage while managing the location and retention of their files across all storage tiers, including EMC Centera.”
EMC selected VeriTest to perform integration testing for EMC Centera because of its strong reputation and ability to provide testing at a state-of-the-art facility that covers a range of Centera-specific criteria and meets a very high level of quality. The test plan, created by VeriTest and EMC, is based on EMC best practices. Testing concentrates on hardware and software setup, basic Centera capabilities, Centera replication, Centera disaster recovery and offsite backup, compliance and retention, single-instance storage, capacity reporting, technical support, and overall application efficiency.
Katrina Teague, Vice President of Solutions for VeriTest, said, “At the VeriTest Storage Lab, we provide a real-world storage networking environment that allowed CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM – Centera Proven Edition to be thoroughly tested on EMC Centera, thereby helping mitigate risk for customers. We were further pleased to note that CaminoSoft’s solution completed the tests in record time, including software installation, policy set-up, and operational test suite. VeriTest’s proven expertise in storage testing and our years of experience in developing, executing, and marketing these types of programs are key to the success of the EMC Centera Proven program. Increasingly, customers agree that advanced testing is beneficial because it ultimately saves them time and money by enabling them to deploy their IT solutions faster and more effectively.”
