a leading provider of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions for Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 and Novell NetWare & GroupWise environments, today announced that its enhancement of Managed Server HSM™ – Tivoli Edition operates with IBM’s System Storage DR550.
CaminoSoft’s solution enables customers to leverage the power of intelligent storage and file management with IBM’s newest data retention offering, helping customers address data archiving, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance requirements.
CaminoSoft’s Managed Server HSM software operates with IBM System Storage Archive Manager, used to help manage and enforce data retention policies for the IBM System Storage DR550. The IBM System Storage DR550 is IBM's next-generation data retention offering, which delivers a central point of control for both regulated data and non-regulated data. It incorporates IBM POWER5™ microprocessors designed for increased performance and speed of data storage. Designed with policy-based non-erasable, non-rewriteable disk technology, it can offer users increased performance, ease-of-use and new lower-priced configuration options. Managed Server HSM –Tivoli Edition complements this to manage the lifecycle of data assets from creation to retirement for commercial, industrial, and governmental customers.
Using Serial ATA (SATA) physical disk storage, the IBM System Storage DR550 is ideal for clients seeking near-line storage application needs at an entry-level price point while capitalizing on mainframe-inspired levels of reliability, security, and functionality. The IBM System Storage DR550 is also designed with autonomic features such as predictive failure analysis and call home capabilities, allowing the system to alert IT staff if a problem occurs. This combined offering will provide CaminoSoft’s customers with the foundation to manage growing data retention needs associated with compliance regulations and litigation.
CaminoSoft’s enhanced Managed Server HSM – Tivoli Edition supports the IBM System Storage DR550, providing a straightforward, cost-effective solution for managing data storage across multiple tiers, including the DR550, Tivoli storage pool devices, SANs, SATA RAID subsystems, NAS target appliances, and general purpose servers. CaminoSoft’s solution leverages an organization’s existing investment in Tivoli software and hardware resources by making use of the storage capacity, high availability, security, protection, and compliance features provided by Tivoli Storage Manager policies and infrastructure. CaminoSoft’s solution, which has “Ready for IBM Tivoli Software” validation, can coexist seamlessly with Tivoli backup, to help ensure consistency with customers’ data protection/recovery strategies.
“Our standard Managed Server HSM solutions for Windows 2000/2003 and NetWare enable IT administrators to readily configure and oversee file and storage management policies from any designated Windows-based console. These policies govern the relocation of seldom-accessed files from high-performance storage area network (SAN) resources to a ‘virtual’ storage pool. CaminoSoft’s enhanced Tivoli Edition extends this rich functionality by providing the ability to migrate files further along a storage hierarchy to Tivoli storage pools and IBM System Storage DR550 archives. This enables customers to implement data retention strategies that facilitate compliance with corporate governance policies and industry regulations,” said Steve Crosson, chief operating officer of CaminoSoft.
The IBM System Storage DR550 can automatically enforce data retention policies while supporting on-demand availability of key data and applications in the event of hardware, software, or network failures. In conjunction with the CaminoSoft Managed Server HSM – Tivoli Edition, the solution provides companies with a key component for effectively managing the value of information, which can help reduce the cost of managing and storing data in compliance with regulations.
“The legal, political and economic climate continues to fuel the growth of the retention managed data marketplace. As companies comply with existing regulations, new regulatory mandates emerge. Consequently, it is an increasing challenge for companies to preserve and protect their retention managed data efficiently,” said Alan Stuart, Chief Strategist and Business Line Executive, IBM Data Retention Solutions. “The IBM System Storage DR550 is designed to help businesses address this challenge while leveraging their existing software. CaminoSoft’s integration with the DR550 helps customers cost-effectively address the myriad, complex issues relating to managing data for long periods of time in accordance with compliance regulations.”
